Exploring Gloop!

In future Friday, Exe class had a brilliant time making gloop from cornflower and water. They added food colouring to add to the fun. It was a fun science experiment to experience the change in properties from a solid to a liquid.

Using cornflour gloop is a great way to relax through tactile exploration as the smoothness calms down the senses.

Using objects such as spoons, forks or sieves allows pupils to see the liquid to powder transition as the gloop dehydrates and becomes cornflour again.

Through this activity, there are lots of opportunities to develop discussion around the touch and feel of the gloop. How does this feel to you? Have you felt something like this before? Why does it go from liquid to powder - is it magic?

If you want to have a go at home, all you need is;

3 cups of cornflour

1 1/2 cups of water

Food colouring

Then,

Mix the cornflour and water together.

While adding the water, add a couple of drops of food colouring and mix well. For a more intense colour, add more food colouring.
